Description of request

I am interested in developing a 'twining' program with another neurosurgery department/society that will involve (but not exclusive to) hands on training for residents (exchange program), equipment donation, faculty exchange and development of research opportunities.

Working in a LMIC with limited resources poses a unique set of challenges especially with regard to training of residents across the broad spectrum of Neurosurgery. Clinical practice many times is limited due to lack of appropriate equipment and operative case volume is sometimes a challenge due to funding. Our Faculty and residents will benefit greatly from access to equipments like CUSA, Neuronavigation, specialized instruments for endoscopy and microneurosurgery. The opportunity to discuss unique cases with other experts in the field also comes in useful to give a different perspective to what can be offered the patient.

As my unit is affiliated with an academic institution, research is a major component of what we do. Limitations in resources affects the productivity along this areas especially in areas of basic science and laboratory/genomic research.
