For over 25 years in my practice, I teaching and dissemination of neurosurgery around the world, most notably in Europe and Africa. As a dedicated researcher and author, I have organized courses and authored papers with international acclaim. In the mid 1990’s, and developed a hands-on cadaver teaching laboratories in Europe with courses for physicians and health care providers in all disciplines from around the world. Since my first visit to Africa 15 years ago have led efforts to develop Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy as a treatment for childhood hydrocephalus via training progams.in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, in Kenya, Kampala and Mbarara in Uganda, Khartoum and Madani in Sudan, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Kigali in Rwanda and Harare in Zimbabwe. I handedly pioneered the concept of Mobile Outreach Neuroendoscopy, using a portable Endoscopic system which has allowed this technology to become widely applied throughout East and Central Africa. Through the visionary efforts Dr PH Young, Dr Moody Qureshi and myself , NED (Neurosurgery Education and Development Foundation) was founded in 2008 to address the lack of proper neurosurgical care and education in East Africa

MNAZI MMOJA NED INSTITUTE
The Mnazi Mmoja Neurosurgical Hospital in Zanzibar City- first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa (and perhaps the world)- provides a coordinated effort between international philanthropy and local institutions. Hundred of volunteers dedicated humanitarian efforts have resulted in a unique collaboration that ensures in perpetuity a steady stream of volunteer international favulty and financial resources to support a state-of-the-art educational and treatment facility. Through this truly incredible work, neurological patients in East Africa now have uninterrupted access to experienced faculty and state-of-the-art equipment.
