Description of offer
A low-fidelity, validated open inguinal hernia model is available for training residents in all open inguinal hernia procedures, including Lichtenstein, Shouldice, and Bassini techniques. The material cost is just 5 euros.
In low-income resource settings, open inguinal hernia repair is still commonly performed. The Lichtenstein procedure is the international standard, but the Shouldice operation is often a viable alternative. Both techniques are technically demanding. In this course, participants build a low-fidelity model, then train on the procedures recommended by the instructors. The model has been validated—see “Validity of a low-cost Lichtenstein open inguinal hernia repair simulation model for surgical training” on PubMed—and has been used in many countries across Europe and Africa. Material costs are about 5 euros, and all materials can be purchased locally.
