Frequently Asked Questions

What is InterSurgeon?

InterSurgeon is a free platform that connects surgeons requiring Clinical Assistance, Education, Equipment or Training with others that are able to offer these things. InterSurgeon exists just to facilitate the connection. The rest is up to you.

How does it work?

There are just two steps needed to connect with other surgeons. Firstly you must register on the site. This involves providing details of hospital affiliations and photo ID, we can be assured that all InterSurgeon members are qualified surgeons. Secondly you should create an Offer or a Request. This tells the world what it is that you are looking for or are able to provide. If you have posted a Request on InterSurgeon, you will then be notified via email whenever another member posts a matching Offer. Similarly, if you post an Offer, you will be alerted whenever another member creates a matching Request. Every month, you’ll also receive a digest via email of all matching Offers and Requests.

Why is InterSurgeon restricted to paediatric neurosurgery at the moment?

Our ultimate aim is to facilitate connections between surgeons of any discipline. Right now, we’re at the beginning of our journey and it makes sense to hone our systems using a subset of surgeons. Paediatric Neurosurgery is the area in which the InterSurgeon founders specialise and therefore we decided to start with what we know. Join our mailing list to be alerted when new surgical disciplines are added.

How long does it take to become a member?

It’s possible to complete the Registration form in 5 or 10 minutes. We will then check through your details, as well as the photo ID you will have been asked to provide via email. If everything’s ok, we will then approve you and you’ll receive an email to say that your account is live. Please be patient during these early days of InterSurgeon. The approval process may be completed in anything from a few hours to a few days. Feel free to contact us if you think things are taking too long.

Can I join on behalf of my hospital/department?

Yes. When you join InterSurgeon, you choose your member type from a list that includes:

  • Individual surgeon
  • Clinical department
  • Clinical department with teaching programme
  • University academic department

How long does it take to create an Offer or Request?

There is no approval process for creating Offers or Requests, and it can be done in less than 10 minutes if you already have a clear idea of what you want to say. However, we strongly recommend that you take the time to communicate clearly and provide details to back up your Offer or Request. Remember that this is the first step in creating a partnership that could last for years – it’s important to make a good impression here.
