Our partners at American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery are accepting fellowship applicants for the Sanjiv Bhatia Global Fellowship.

The purpose of this fellowship is to enrich the training experience of a resident or fellow in an ACGME accredited neurosurgery residency or pediatric neurosurgery fellowship by gaining experience and learning about the practice of neurosurgery in a global setting.

The fellowship also intends to foster research collaborations between centers in North America and centers hosting a fellowship. Preference will be given to applicants going to a Low and Middle Income Country (LMIC) training program.

Each project is required to have a pediatric neurosurgeon mentor (Pediatric Section members with global experience), a local mentor and host site, as well as a research plan and approval from the applicant’s residency or program director.

Eligibility

Resident or Fellow in an ACGME accredited neurosurgery residency or pediatric neurosurgery fellowship. (training level PGY4 or above).

Award amount

$5000

Applicants will work with a pediatric neurosurgeon mentor of their choice. Preferred mentors are AANS/CNS joint section on pediatric neurological surgery section members with global pediatric neurosurgery experience, please see additional requirements below.

Call for mentors for the Sanjiv Bhatia Pediatric Neurosurgery Global Fellowship*

The AANS/CNS Pediatric Section is currently looking for faculty to provide mentorship for our inaugural AANS/CNS Pediatric Section Resident/Fellow Global Pediatric Neurosurgery Training Fellowship.

The purpose of this fellowship is to enrich the training experience of a resident or fellow in an ACGME accredited neurosurgery residency or pediatric neurosurgery fellowship by gaining experience and learning about the practice of neurosurgery in a global setting.

The fellowship also intends to foster research collaborations between centers in North America and centers hosting a fellowship. Preference will be given to applicants going to a Low and Middle Income Country (LMIC) training program.

Mentor responsibilities for this fellowship

  1. Track record of collaboration with a global neurosurgery training program. Mentor must have visited and participated in surgery at the site at least once. Preference will be given to sites in LMICs.
  2. Provide mentorship for fellowship proposal and research project.
  3. Continue mentorship after fellowship for completion of research project.
  4. Provide a local mentor for the fellow if not able to be present on site for the duration of the fellowship

Site responsibilities for this fellowship

  1. Ability to obtain a license for the fellow so fellow is able to participate in cases. Be able to provide liability coverage consistent with the norms for that site.
  2. Able to provide safe housing for fellow and provide for a reasonable level of safety for the fellow.
  3. Case volume: Minimum of 20 cases/month.
  4. Able to meet goals and expectations for the rotation
