The InciSioN Global Surgery Symposium (IGSS) is the world’s largest student- and trainee-led conference dedicated to global surgery. Held annually through a collaboration between InciSioN’s international team and one of its National Working Groups (NWGs), IGSS has a proud legacy of convening passionate advocates, researchers, and professionals from across the globe. The first two in-person editions were hosted in Belgium (2018) and Rwanda (2019), gathering hundreds of participants and awarding travel scholarships to delegates from low- and middle-income countries. During the pandemic, IGSS 2020 and 2021 were hosted virtually with the Colombia and Bosnia and Herzegovina NWGs, respectively, reaching over 1,200 participants and featuring more than 120 speakers from around the world.
At IGSS 2025, we recognize that global surgery extends far beyond the operating room. It is a multifaceted, transdisciplinary effort that requires collaboration between clinicians, policymakers, researchers, educators, and advocates. Our theme, "Transdisciplinary Solutions for Stronger Surgical Systems", underscores the importance of turning global surgery policies into tangible, real-world impacts through collaborative, cross-disciplinary approaches.
