Our Mission Statement
The Surgical Club In Congo was created in 2008 at The University Of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo by medical students supported by medical doctors. Its creation was motivated by the interest in medicine in general and surgery in particular and the idea of its creation came from the professor Abednego KINASHA (Tanzanian Neurosurgeon); at that time president of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). This club is equivalent to national clubs of counties members of the COSECSA. The reason for its creation was to gather medical students and doctors for exchanges around medicine and surgery. II. Reasons for the creation The practice of Medicine is both a ministry and an art that why the respect of life and human beings constitutes every time a primordial duty of a medical doctor. So, whatever is his function or specialty, the physician is called to bring to every patient an emergentassistance even if other medical care can’t be guaranteed. In order to fulfil his duties, the medical doctor must fight diseases keeping a good consciousness, with expertise basing himself on the technical orientation so as to reach the objective of therapeutics which is “to heal”. However, 1. Seeing the insufficiency of practice in the undergraduate program, 2. Seeing the lack of the research culture and scientific exchanges among students in the Faculty of Medicine, future medical doctors, in the D.R.Congo, 3. Profoundly worried about the future of the medical practice in DRC, 4. Profoundly worried about the delay of the new technology applied to Medicine in DRC, 5. Considering the sacred aspect of the human life, We decided that time in 2008, to create, beyond our differences, a club of students and physicinas interested in Surgery in DRC referred to as SURGICAL CLUB IN CONGO; SCC in short. And from that time until now, the Surgical Club In Congo continues to gather physicians and medical students for training purpose by in persons activities as well as webinar conferences (like the one ongoing on Trauma Patients management in the DRC where students and surgeons discuss). We pursue some objectives : 1. General objective SCC aims to get together students in the Faculty of Medicine and Doctors in the DRC for the promotion of science and surgical practice in their future profession. 2. Specific objectives a. to endow the SCC with regular means of exchanging points of view, information and experiences in the domain of medical sciences, particularly when they have connections with surgery , b. To promote friendship, scientific exchanges among students in the Faculty of Medicine and Doctors in DRC and all over the world, and the cooperation in the practice of their profession for the future, c. To contribute to the acquisition of medical and surgical equipments and to the improvement of sanitary state of Congolese people, d. To encourage medical students and physicians in DRC to do researches and to good testimony by the respect of national regulations of the medical profession and in accordance with medical technological evolution in force at the present time locally and abroad as well. 3. Activities foreseen Our activities may be summarised in organizing conference, seminars, research as well as patients care by organizing medical and surgical camps in the country. We are registered and permitted to run our activities throughout the country. It is for us vital need to be in touch with your organisation to achieve training and patients health care. Thanking you with the very best regards Sincerely, Dr Ehanga Idi Marcel Technical Director, SCC COSECSA TraineeAdministrative HQ
